All 2020 Gold Award Girl Scouts from across Western New York received acknowledgment of their achievements at the virtual Gold Award Celebration on June 16. All the 2020 recipients will be included in the 2021 in-person ceremony next June. The Girl Scout Gold Award is the most prestigious award in the world for girls.

The Gold Award project is the culmination of all the work a girl puts into “going for the Gold.” A Girl Scout’s project should be something that a girl can be passionate about—in thought, deed, and action that encompasses organizational, leadership, and networking skills. The project should also fulfill a need within a girl’s community (whether local or global) and create change that has the potential to be on-going or sustainable. Approximately 80 hours of community service are involved in the project. Completion of the Gold Award also qualifies the Girl Scout for special scholarship opportunities and she can enlist in the military at a higher starting pay grade.

The Girl Scout Gold Award, the most prestigious award in the world for girls, acknowledges the power behind each recipient’s dedication to not only empowering and bettering herself, but also to making the world a better place for others. These young women are courageous leaders and visionary change makers.

The Gold Award requires a Girl Scout to identify an issue and investigate it to understand what can be done to address the problem. The girl then forms a team to act as a support system, including a project advisor close to the issue who is not a troop leader or family member, while she leads the project. The Girl Scout creates a plan to ensure they know what steps they must tackle while working on the project. The Girl Scout submits a proposal for her project to her local Girl Scout council. After acceptance, the girl begins to work through the steps of their plan utilizing the assistance of her support team where necessary. Lastly, the project is used to educate and inspire others about the cause they are addressing.

Have you created for your SAGE Tuition Rewards account?

To everyone who participated in Spring Renewal, THANK YOU! As you may know, one of the great incentives you received is SAGE Tuition Reward Points. Girls earned 2,500 points, and co-leaders and SUMs earned 3,500 points.

To receive these points, you must create a SAGE Tuition Rewards account for yourself or your girl by Friday, June 7. If you previously created an account, you do not need to take this step again.  If both a leader and a child earned points, ensure that your child is listed as a designated child on your account.

If you need to create an account, visit www.tuitionrewards.com. At that time, you can designate recipients for the tuition points or edit the list later. While on the website, you can learn more about how the points work, who can use them, qualifying colleges, and more. We also have FAQs about SAGE Tuition Rewards  for your reference.

You must set up your SAGE Rewards account by Friday, June 7, or you will lose your earned points. Points cannot be added retroactively if account is not set up at time of transfer.

Your points will be loaded when they are applied in August.  You will have until September 30, 2019 to check your account for proper application of points.  After that date, points cannot be added, even if  you had an account in place at the time of transfer.

If you have any questions, please contact Customer Care at customercare@gswny.org or call 1-888-837-6410.

Renew Today

We’re in the final weeks of Spring Renewal 2019!

By now you’ve probably heard us talk about Spring Renewal. It’s our annual tradition of inviting our members to renew early and earn some amazing incentives. Since April 1, we’ve given out gift cards, t-shirts, tickets, and more. But we aren’t finished yet!

We still have THREE $100 Amazon gift cards to give away, 10% off adult apparel, service unit gift card incentives, GSWNY Program Cards, and the guaranteed win of SAGE Tuition Rewards.

Renewing in the next 16 days automatically enters you into the drawings and provides you with the SAGE points. Essentially, this is free money for college. Accepted at 400 colleges and universities around the United States, every girl who renews by May 31 receives 2,500 points (aka $2,500) and every co-leader and service unit manager who renews by then receives 3,500 points (aka $3,500). Don’t miss this incredible opportunity!

Beyond the incentives, renewing now gets you and your girl ready for the next year of Girl Scouts. When the new school year rolls around, it’s one less thing to worry about because you know you’re all set.

One month left in Spring Renewal 2019!

It’s hard to believe the month of April is over and tomorrow brings us May! While we’re excited about the flowers and sunshine, we’re here to talk about Spring Renewal and the amazing incentives still available for you!

First of all, in case you don’t know, Spring Renewal is a time to re-register for the following year of Girl Scouts. Our membership year begins in October, but renewing early secures your spot for the fun yet to come AND includes amazing incentives.

Renewing your membership by May 31 automatically qualifies your girl for SAGE Tuition Rewards. These points translate to money for college, meaning the $25 you pay for her membership turns into 2500 points, which becomes $2,500 to be used at one of 400 colleges and universities across the United States.

The deal is even sweeter if you’re a co-leader. When you renew early, you receive 3500 SAGE Tuition Rewards points, or $3,500, that your girl, son, niece, nephew, god child etc. can use for higher education.

Outside of those GUARANTEED rewards for re-registering during Spring Renewal, you have other chances to win. If you renew by 11:59 p.m. TONIGHT, you’re entered into a drawing for one of three $200 Amazon gift cards. If your entire troop and two co-leaders are renewed, your troop can win one of two sets of tickets to your favorite local museum or zoo (up to 12 tickets).

Don’t wait any longer! Renew your Girl Scout membership today and win!

Spring Renewal is now open!

April 1 marks the first day of Spring Renewal for Girl Scouts of Western New York! This is your chance to renew you and your girl’s membership for the 2019-2020 membership year and win big in the process.

We have a number of incentives, including ear buds, patches, and some Target gift cards ranging from $100 to $300! Those you have a chance to win, but everyone who renews between April 1 and May 31 receives SAGE Tuition Rewards points, aka scholarships for college.

Every girl who renews during Spring Renewal will receive 2,500 points, which turns into $2,500, valid at 300 schools around the country. Co-leaders who renew receive 3,500 points, or $3,500, that are transferable to anyone under the age of 18.

It might be April Fools Day, but we aren’t kidding around! These incentives are the real deal and yours for the taking now through May 31.

Christine Kirwan, our director of Volunteer Experience, explains Spring Renewal in some more details below!

Don’t forget to register for your Sage Rewards Points!

First, we want to thank everyone who participated in our Spring Renewal Campaign. We are beyond thrilled with how many adults and girls renewed early this year. Even better than our gratitude, all our early birds qualify for some pretty great perks, including Sage Tuition Rewards Points.

This system turns your renewal fee into money for college for anyone you choose still in high school. Every dollar turns into a point, which in turn becomes a $1,000! The $25 cost for girls becomes $2,500 and the $35 for co-leaders and Service Unit Managers becomes $3,500! Even better, you don’t have to assign these points right away and you can change who you’d like to receive them.

To receive these points, you must create an account with Sage Scholars by Friday, June 8. This allows the points to be added automatically this summer. Failing to sign up unfortunately means you won’t receive your points – they can’t be added retroactively.

Visit www.tuitionrewards.com to set up an account.  At that time, you can designate recipients for the tuition points, or edit the list later.  If you have issues logging in, or have questions about your account, please contact Sage directly using the “Contact Us” link on their website.  We are unable to assist with your account. While on the Sage Rewards website, you can learn more about how the points work, who can use them, qualifying colleges and more.

If you have additional questions, please review this FAQ sheet.

One Week Left in Spring Renewal!

We’re in the last week of May and the LAST WEEK for SPRING RENEWAL! This means if you haven’t renewed your Girl Scouts membership for next year, now is the time to mark the task off your list while qualifying for sweet rewards!

MY 2019 Spring Renewal Flyer

As you can see above, there are still some amazing prizes up for grabs, like a drawing for some Amazon and GSWNY gift cards as well as savings at our store! Even better, all girls and co-leaders who renew by May 31 will automatically receive SAGE Tuition Points, aka FREE MONEY FOR COLLEGE!

What are you waiting for? Renew your membership today!

Renew today and save on college later!

With only three weeks left, Spring Renewal is winding down but the incentives are still amazing. If you renew before June 1, you are still eligible for exclusive events in the fall, drawings for Amazon gift cards, and the guarantee of Sage Tuition Rewards.

If you aren’t sure what that means for you, check out the video below:

Basically, Sage Tuition Rewards is a partnership with more than 350 colleges and universities across the United States, including some right in our backyard like RIT and Canisius. Every point you receive translates to $1 to go toward college tuition, meaning renewing as a girl is $2500 in college rewards and as a co-leader that’s $3500 in college rewards. You can combine these amounts in an account, which means you’ve earned $6000 for college just this year.

The best part is they’re transferable. Anyone who’s younger than a high school senior is eligible to use and apply the points, making them the perfect gift for your daughters, sons, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren!

Don’t miss these (and other great prizes) by renewing your Girl Scout Membership today!
