GSWNY Celebrates AAPI Heritage Month

This month, the GSWNY Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee is celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! While we aren’t able to highlight every one of these amazing and diverse cultures, each week will feature an overall theme with related information.

Earn Points for College Scholarships From Girl Scouts of Western New YorkRenew by 5/31

This is an exclusive benefit for girls, co-leaders, and SUMs who participate in our annual Girl Scout Membership Spring Renewal Campaign and renew by 5/31. After their first year of Girl Scouts, girls, co-leaders, and SUMs can earn Tuition Reward Points when they renew their Girl Scout membership. Each 1 Point equals $1 in college tuition scholarship. Girls earn 2,500 Points and co-leaders/SUMs earn 3,500 Points. Points will be applied to SAGE Scholars accounts in July. Want more information? Visit our SAGE Scholars Page.

It’s T-FAR (Troop Financial Activity Report) time!

Is the volunteer who takes care of your troop’s finances a registered 2021 member of Girl Scouts?

Is their Background Check up to date?

Have they clicked the role of Troop Treasurer on MYAccount in MYGS/VTK?

If you answered no to any of these questions and you need help turning them into a yes, please reach out to Customer Care at 1-888-837-6410 or email Customercare@gswny.org.

Please remember –submission of the T-FAR between May 1 and June 1is mandatory for ALL troops even…..

  • for those troops on pause. 
  • if you haven’t touched your troop account all year.

Consistent troop financial record keeping with GSUSA is essential. This submission ensures good faith and proper stewardship of the girl’s funds. Reach out to Customer Care with any questions.

GRAWA and Girl Scouts – Learn about the Court System!

The Greater Rochester Association of Women Attorneys has a long tradition of providing courtroom tours at the Hall of Justice. Due to COVID-19, the activity has shifted to an outdoor event at Genesee Valley Park on Saturday, May 22, from 10:00am to 1:00pm with a focus on the Juvenile Justice System.

The event is recommended for kids in fourth grade and up. The event will be socially distanced, and the activity includes lunch, breakout discussions with small groups, and an opportunity to meet and engage with local attorneys and judges. The program has a maximum participant list of 35, which includes adult volunteers and chaperones.

TECH SAVVY 16 is VIRTUAL this year!

Conference registration is $10 per attendee and includes materials for workshops (books, experiment materials) and T-shirt. Materials will be mailed to attendees’ address.

Girl Scouts Doing Good Things

Senior Troop 70090 and Cadette Troop 70094 worked together to earn their Game Visionary and Good Sportsmanship badges. They did a giant game of Rock, Paper, Scissors and created an obstacle course. Each girl completed the obstacle course on two feet, one foot, and one girl is blindfolded and following directions from another girl.

They wrapped up with a game of Pictionary and they will go bowling to finish up the badge with being a good sport.
