Hello GSWNY Members and Volunteers, Are you ready? It’s almost unbelievable to think that we are in a new membership year and quickly approaching the kick-off of our upcoming cookie program season. This year will be filled with adventure and another great opportunity for our Girl Scouts to grow their entrepreneurial skills. Undoubtedly, our girls have proven to be successful leaders managing the ever-changing world following the pandemic. While we have been relieved to see many activities coming back in person, we are still dealing with the pandemic’s impact, including the effects of inflation. Like many organizations and industries, GSWNY has had to make the difficult decision to implement a price increase. The price of Girl Scout cookies will increase from $5 to $6 per box. This is a 20% increase and we will also be increasing the troop proceeds by 20% accordingly. As girls goal set, they will work together to determine their troop goal. Troops can earn $.90-$1.08 per package. We have included a breakdown of the proceeds here. This price adjustment is similar to other cookie companies, produce, and grocery store increases due to additional production costs for items like wheat, shipping, and fuel. We will share this news with media outlets across our region later today. As a result, we’ve included some FAQs discussed during last night’s webinar to help our volunteers and girls navigate this adjustment. If you are contacted by the media, please refer them to our EVP of Marketing and Communications, Juanita Washington, at Juanita.washington@gswny.org. We will also provide our girls with informational cards related to the price increase, which they can hand out after the launch of the cookie season. Our goal is for GSWNY to get ahead of this messaging so that when our Girl Scouts begin their sale, our consumers are already aware of the price change. We thank you for your understanding. Please get in touch with Customer Care with any questions and concerns at customercare@gswny.org or by calling 1-888-837-6410. For the last 110 years, Girl Scouts has spent every day propelling the success of girls. The Girl Scout experience shapes innovative and entrepreneurial-minded leaders by allowing girls to find the courage to fail and keep trying, the tools to create independence and the power to do good.
You may have heard the news that Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) announced an $84.5 million donation from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. While GSWNY (Our Council) is not a direct grant recipient, this donation could not have come at a better time. With the challenges facing girls today, it’s critical to invest in their futures through organizations like GSWNY.
Your help is needed to support the next generation of our girls! The number of families asking for financial assistance through our Council Opportunity Fund has increased over the past two years. YOU can make a difference with a contribution to this fund today!
As a welcome to Girl Scouts, every Girl Scout Shop is keeping our doors open late just for you! Wednesday November 30, 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Calling all new troop leaders, parents/caregivers and girls! All are welcome to come meet with our retail team and shop for apparel, accessories, badges, uniforms, and more. We’ll have additional Girl Scout staff members on hand to answer any questions you might have about running a Girl Scout troop. No question is too big or too small.
